Over the Edge Marathon and Half Marathon

Come and participate where it all began!  Over the Edge – the marathon and Half Marathon of the 2012 Wenlock Olympian Games, founded by Dr William Penny Brookes in 1850. The games in Wenlock sparked the re-birth of the Olympian movement and the Modern Olympic Games. We are proud to organise a marathon, an Olympic event, at the birthplace of the Modern Olympics. We hope you enjoy the event and being part of our Olympian heritage.

It will be a linear route, the same as the original Marathon distance run by Pheidippides from Marathon in Greece to Athens in 490 B.C.

The Marathon will begin in Craven Arms and follow an undulating off road course back to the birthplace of the modern Olympics, Much Wenlock. Quiet lanes at the start soon give way to woodland paths and farmland, offering participants stunning views of the shropshire countryside. Wilderhope Manor will be passed at the halfway point and will form the start of the Half Marathon. Hopefully at the finish participants will feel a little better than Pheidippides did (lets just say he didn't run again!) and enjoy some refreshments in the beautiful town of Much Wenlock. The route will be waymarked and there will be friendly marshalls on hand at least every 5 miles offering drinks and encouragement.

There are a few points along the route where supporters will be able to watch friends and family taking part.

The entry fee is £25 for the Marathon and £15 for the Half Marathon, all finishers will recieve a medal.

Coaches will be available to transport participants from the finish to the start if required at a cost of £3 (tbc)
